Q: Do I need to ask my referees to send you a reference by 30 November?
A: No. Please simply provide the details of 2 referees who have agreed to act in this capacity.
Q: I’m an Overseas/EU student. Do I need to submit a GRADSAF as well as the preliminary application form?
A: If you wish to be considered for funding from either the University or the Department of Chemistry you will need to submit a GRADSAF by the funding deadline of 2 December 2015 (or 14 October for Gates USA). This is in addition to the preliminary application form and documents you should send by email direct to the Department.
Q: I’m a Home student. When do I have to submit a GRADSAF?
A: If you wish to be considered for funding from either the University or the Department of Chemistry you will need to submit a preliminary application form by the 30 November 2015. If you are shortlisted and selected for interview you will then be asked to submit a GRADSAF by the 6 January 2016 deadline.
Q: I have my own scholarship or intend to self-fund. Do I need to complete the preliminary application form?
A: If you do not wish to be considered for Departmental or University funding you should still submit a preliminary application form in the first instance, but this does not have to be by 30 November 2015. You may then subsequently be invited to submit a GRADSAF by the normal University application deadlines.
Q: I have approached a PI who has indicated they have funding for a studentship, are there deadlines for me to apply?
A: The final deadline is 30 June 2016 (unless stated otherwise), but early applications are always advised. You will still be interviewed.
Q: I’m a Home student and the 30 November deadline for preliminary application forms has passed, but not the University deadline of 6 January. Is it too late for me to apply and be considered for a University or Department scholarship?
A: Competition for the limited Departmental and University funding is strong and application numbers are high, so we encourage potential graduate students to submit the Preliminary Application Form by the advertised deadline of 30 November to ensure they can be considered and ranked in time. We may consider a GRADSAF submitted by the University deadline of 6 January (without a preliminary application having been made), but it is likely that Department funded places will have already been offered to candidates who applied by 30 November.
